Matt achieved Grade 8 distinction on the piano at age 16 and went on to study music at Cardiff University, graduating in 2015 with first-class honours. In 2023 he gained an ATCL diploma. He is a piano tutor at The Crypt School, Beaudesert Park School and Wycliffe College and also teaches privately in Stroud. ​He is the co-MD for Dursley Male Voice Choir and accompanist for The Stuart Singers. Formerly, he was organist and choirmaster at Lower Cam and Coaley parish churches. Matt also works as a wedding pianist and choir arranger.
